Ushuaia, Argentina

The snow-capped Martial Mountains behind a sprawling city of colorful buildings create the backdrop of Ushuaia, Argentina. A mix of historic buildings and rugged nature adventures make this city the perfect fit for the curious explorer who wants to go beyond the surface.
Don’t let the nickname the “End of the World” fool you. Although it lies on the southernmost tip of South America among the Tierra del Fuego archipelago, Ushuaia is far from the end of any adventure. Where the Andes meet the Beagle Channel lies a lively town ready and waiting to take you on the thrill ride of a lifetime.
The wild forest of Parque Yatana entices you to hike and explore its many trails as you find your way through Argentina’s lush nature and rich, indigenous culture. The forest’s name translates to “weave” in the native language of Yaghan. Here, you will find arts and crafts from the indigenous communities on display, giving you a sense of wonder.
For a greater challenge, take the trail that leads from downtown to Martial Glacier. The scene before your eyes gives way from green grass to rocky, black peaks spattered with white snow. The heart-pounding trek takes you through an unbelievable path that leads to a view of the Andes Mountains, Ushuaia, and the ocean.

Cape Horn, Chile
Located on the tiny Hornos Island, Cape Horn is the southernmost headland of Tierra del Fuego and where the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans meet. To this day, sailing around it is still considered one of the great yachting challenges. If the opportunity for a RIB cruise presents itself, you may find yourself climbing the cliffside across a rocky beach. Weather permitting, you may go ashore and stop at the Chilean naval station, where you can dive into the cape’s maritime history. Find your way to the lighthouse, Stella Maris Chapel and Cape Horn Memorial, where you can sign the guest book and have your passport stamped.

Wulaia Bay, Chile
Wulaia Bay lies along the Murray Channel in the extreme southern region of Chile. This leads the way into the breathtaking Chilean Fjords, where you can explore the likes of the Aguila & Cóndor, Guilcher, Pía, Porter and Romanche Glaciers. Journeying through Glacier Alley amid the Chilean Fjords, you navigate icy waters with vistas of snow-capped peaks and dark green forests. Among the many incredible sights you’ll witness in this region, Torres del Paine National Park and Balmaceda village are sure to leave you stunned. These wide-open spaces of the Patagonia region of Chile call out to your explorer spirit for further investigation of the world around you.

Murray Channel – Scenic Navigation

Connecting Chile to Antarctica, the Murray Channel offers breathtaking vistas as you sail along its waters. It’s here you begin to encounter the wondrous Chilean fjords and glaciers, a wintery scene that is unexpected in South America. Along the shores that bound the route, you can also look upon the hills and ponder on the Yaghan people that once settled the area about 10,000 years ago.

CAPTAIN’S CHOICE – Captain’s Choice ports of call add to the sense of adventure and an element of surprise. Your ship’s master will sail around changing weather conditions as needed and take you to the best areas for wildlife viewing.

Pia Glacier, Chile

Lying along the Chilean Patagonia coast within a fjord, this behemoth glacier brings on a sense of aw and wonder as you marvel upon it. Located within a secluded region, its sheer size is enough to inspire a connection with the wider world around you. Its magnificence makes it a highlight of Glacier Alley.

Agostini Sound – Scenic Navigation

Also known as Agostini Fjord, this is where you find the famous Águila and Cóndor glaciers. It separates the Cordillera Darwin into Cordón Navarro in the southwest and the mountain range that includes Monte Buckland in the northeast. While the mountain range contains some of the most rugged landscapes in Chile, the Cordón Navarro contains more ice-covered scenes that captivate the imagination as you navigate this waterway.

CAPTAIN’S CHOICE – Captain’s Choice ports of call add to the sense of adventure and an element of surprise. Your ship’s master will sail around changing weather conditions as needed and take you to the best areas for wildlife viewing.

Aguila & Condor Glaciers

Águila Glacier is a Chilean glacier located in Agostini Fjord, which separates the Cordillera Darwin in two. Your captain may navigate through Cockburn Channel where you will soon see the glaciers that descend from the middle of the Darwin Mountain Range – some of them reaching the water. At Águila Glacier, you can hike around a lagoon formed by the melting ice, eventually reaching a spot right in front of it with stunning views. At Cóndor Glacier, you might catch a glimpse of the famed Andean Condors that are so abundant in this area.

Magdalena Island

One of the islands of the Strait of Magellan, Magdalena Island is occupied year-round by a small force of park rangers, inviting explorers to stop and visit its rugged grounds. Aside from the park rangers the only other locals you’ll meet are the Magellanic penguins that call the island home. Magdalena Island is the largest colony of these penguins in all of Chile.

Punta Arenas, Chile
Experience one of the world’s most captivating places with an abundance of natural treasures in Punta Arenas. Take a boat or a kayak along the winding Strait of Magellan. The fjords and channels are celebrated for their natural beauty of glacial and mountainous scenery. It is also home to several islands, including Magdalena Island where penguins are eager to meet your acquaintance-60,000 of them. These Magellan Penguins comprise the largest colony of penguins in Chile. For a wildlife-centric trek, head to Torres del Paine, deemed a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. Spot majestic condors soaring overhead. Look out for foxes, huemul or Andean deer and guanacos along the way.

Ainsworth Bay, Chile

Lying in the Almirantazgo Sound among the breathtaking Chilean Fjords, you’ll find the isolated and beautiful Ainsworth Bay. On the shores of this remote destination, you can watch for the silhouette of the Marinelli Glacier and watch elephant seals on the beaches. These wide-open spaces of the Patagonia region of Chile call out to your explorer spirit for further investigation of the world around you..
